N900 Review
Wow a first for phones and finally a proper through out Linux based phone, now don’t go thinking this is similar to android, its not, why? you ask, well android is by Google and all apps for android base phones are locked to android, so the irony is it isn’t completely open source and free in my opinion.
Now what you’ve been waiting for, The phone or should i say internet tablet with a phone app and ability built in, this nifty phone does everything your average phone does and more! because its Linux based it means you get more functionality and fun for your money.
Now in my experience most Linux distributions and OS’S have been jammed packed with free app’s and this is no exception, Nokia actually wants you to hack it, i am referring to the Nokia N900 push event, where developers and hackers use and modify the phone to its full potential.
Also the camera is amazing to say the least, not to mention the pure video quality, films look brilliant on the phone and in my opinion a lot better then most video players and handheld devices, Now one thing that did surprise me is that along with the really nice slide out qwerty keyboard and the incredible sound from the speakers, was how responsive the touch screen was and not to mention its very tactile and i haven’t broken the phone once.
Now before i forget there was something i really like about this phone, well most smart devices have GPS, well so does this but with a really neat twist, its called geotagging, now how geotagging works is, you take a picture of your location or area that your in and you can map the area information to the picture you just took,to the exact location you would find via GPS, now there is no need to type the location in via text, what a brilliant way to use a picture to represent something and tie in information at the same time, you can also use the GPS the normal way by typing the address, but where’s? the fun in that.
Also before i get down to the specs, now this isn’t to have a crack at the iphone but as well as the phones inbuilt memory, you can also put a micro SD card to maximize the storage capacity, well there is no way I’m running out of space any time soon and the battery is very decent indeed and it lasts for quite some time.
Pros&Cons:
Pros-Extremely fast, great quality film and sound playback, responsive touch screen, large storage capacity(expandable), tactile, slide out qwerty keyboard, loads of good free app’s.
Cons-Some app’s still need work done, updates from Nokia take quite awhile.
